Romans 6 and the Dishwasher

Romans 5:end- 6:1 or so:20Now the law came in to increase the trespass, but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, so that, as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through righteousness leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means!

As I loaded my dishes at work today, the dishwasher helped me think through this passage, oddly enough. Even though there is still a mess on my plate as I load it, I'm not worried about it and shouldn't put my energy into making sure its already clean- that's what the dishwasher is for!! But its cleaning ability isn't going to make me heap more food on it as I load it, just for the sake of entertainment or some other reason- no, I just ENJOY the dishwasher.

So I need to be careful in saying Jesus is like a dishwasher, but the point remains- that I should seek to enjoy him and be amazed by the depth of his love- not heap sin on grace
