Repentance

Repentance has been a buzz word around some of my friends lately, and caused me to think through it more than usual. Why is it important? What is it actually? and HOW do we repent?

My incorrect instinct is to decide to start following the rules after having broken them. Rules do have a part in this, but not primarily.

An essential first step is to admit that I have broken the rules, been an utter disappointment and have acted contrary to the desires of (God Almighty). The key here is to be honest with myself and get things on the table with Him, and also one of my friends. People hold us accountable in a unique way that God doesn't and this is okay, because its God's design. People help me realize the eternal reality in the here and now. They give me a glimpse of sadness, somberness and displeasure with my rebellious spirit.

Now once I have admitted all this, back to following the rules? Wrong again. Gotta spend time with the ruler, becoming more closely acquainted with His character and understanding why the rules were implemented. Just behold the greatness, that's all. And it will cultivate a fascination. And Love. And these will lead to wanting to follow the rules, but I will also see that following the rules is insufficient to please the ruler. And having someone else that fulfilled the rules in my stead, essential.

Thank you Jesus, for following all the rules for me. Increase my love for you.
