The fear of failure has been on the forefront of my mind lately, especially during the Milwaukee New Year's conference. Two observations.
1) The fear of failure ALWAYS leads to actual failure (by not doing anything) and is a result of trying to preserve beauty and perfection. It will never achieve beauty, though, only avoid disaster, and in turn be a disaster and failure for never taking a risk. Where smart risks are absent, so are satisfying rewards.
2) A story. As Jared and I headed home to Minneapolis from Milwaukee, we stopped to get some food and I got some jalapeno sunflower seeds to stay awake while driving. Okay, this is a little weird to analyze seed spitting habits, but it is a good example too. I hate messing things up, and if you just take one seed at a time, you won't mess things up. But you miss the beautiful process of sorting everything out, carefully avoiding crunching the chaw of half cracked shells and whole, uncracked 'rounds in the chamber' seeds....and getting the perfect split and enjoying the salty, nutty, jalapeno goodness.
Smoking... what a disgusting habit! (think Ace Ventura)
