Born to Run and the Nike deception

Born to Run, currently the #88th top seller at Amazon.com has an interesting premise: Nike has introduced sports injuries on a whole new level with the invention of their high tech cushion of swooshy foot apparel.  Christopher McDougall tells the story of the Tarahumara tribe of ancient runners and how they maintain superiority without stretching, running shoes, or much protein in their diet.

It recaps 100 mile races in flip flops,  ultra runners, and the misunderstanding of modern running which pounds the heels.

Something about this theory rings true, but I am no podiatrist.   Just a runner with intuition.

Who would have thought reading about running would be interesting?

i really enjoyed "born to run" and the idea of kicking off my spendy running shoes to build the muscle my feet naturally should have to run long distance...but then my shin splints start yelling and all the aches and pains start barking so nike has enslaved me to keep purchasing my super bouncy, non-natural running kicks! oh well, great book that inspired me to run for fun, enjoy tortillas & beer, and pursue longer races. i thought it was really entertaining!
