Ephesians 4 talks about putting on the new self. I like this image, well atleast I think I do. Maybe like the image more than the work of putting on the new self.
The real trick may be in the fine print, that this 'spiderman' costume does come with a catch. The prerequisite is removal of the heart, and replacement with a new one.
It will certainly be painful, aye, near death. And in the moment it is completed, this is a real possibility, like lungs wanting oxygen so bad as the diver nears the surface, without the most cautious discipline, will certainly inhale the salty brine of death.
So take heart, and press on self, and trust the surgeon who is Jesus.
