Discipline has been an interesting blessing. More on that later, just have to write it down or I will forget.
Tonight I was pulling up on Lyndale to turn in for the night when this woman in her 30's started yelling, screaming and running towards me from the other side of Lyndale. Really busy night, lots of buses, and still running with all her other accessories flying about. As she approaches me, she lets me know she is not a burgular and she needs to get to Louisiana. How about THAT for an introduction. So I ask her name and get her to slow down a bit, and Deidra more clearly explains that it is her birthday, had a few drinks and she was quite peeved by the cab, as indicated by the tirade of profanity she directed towards them. SO, we got in the car and she starts jamming to a song by Houdini- original hip-hop artist I haven't listened to before. I only know we are going to Louisiana and can hardly see out my windshield with blaring music, quite an interesting end to the night. So I get her over to Louisiana AVENUE and send her drunk self home to bed. Then a cop pulled me over and asked if I was drinking because it smelled so strongly of alcohol, and inquired as to why my lights were off (tail lights out) What a story. She gave back my license and sent me on the way.
Tonight Pastor Sam reminded me of the Parable in Luke where the person who was forgiven much LOVES MUCH. I'm too tired to articulate the connection here, but God just gave me a supernatural patience with this woman even though she was a mess and I could have taken advantage of her if I had wanted to. God just showed me a glimpse of how out of control we really are and need someone behing the steering wheel who is sober.
Thanks for forgiving much even when I don't even inquire on my debt as to how much it is. Amen
